Uniform

Our school uniform is important to us. It helps pupils feel part of the Norbury Manor Primary School family, promotes a strong sense of belonging and equality, supports safeguarding and reflects the high standards and expectations we have for all pupils.

All pupils are expected to wear school uniform in accordance with our Uniform and Appearance Policy, unless an individual adjustment or temporary variation has been agreed.

We have deliberately kept our uniform simple, practical and affordable. Most items are generic and can be purchased from supermarkets, high-street shops, online retailers or second-hand sources. Families do not need to purchase generic items from our approved uniform suppliers.

Our School Uniform

The everyday school uniform consists of:

• Royal blue NMP logo sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan – pupils need one of these options.
• Plain white or yellow polo shirt, or a plain white shirt/blouse. A school-logo polo shirt may be purchased if preferred, but it is not compulsory.
• Plain grey or black trousers, skirt, pinafore or tailored shorts.
• Plain grey, black, white or suitable neutral-coloured socks or tights, as appropriate.
• Plain black, closed-toe, secure school shoes with a flat or low sole.
• A suitable coat for the weather.

A blue and white gingham dress may be worn during warmer weather. Grey or black tailored shorts may also be worn during warmer weather.

Compulsory Branded Items

To keep costs as low as possible, NMP has only two compulsory branded uniform items:

1. One royal blue NMP logo sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan.
2. One yellow NMP logo PE T-shirt.

No other branded uniform item is compulsory. Where additional branded items are available to buy, families may choose suitable unbranded alternatives.

Where to Buy Uniform

Generic items can be purchased from any suitable retailer, including supermarkets, high-street shops, online retailers and second-hand sources.

Second-Hand Uniform and Financial Support

We want school uniform to be affordable for every family. Second-hand uniform is available to all current and prospective families.

Families can contact the School Office or Pupil, Parent Support Officer discreetly to ask about available second-hand items. Parents and carers are also encouraged to donate clean, good-quality uniform that their children have outgrown.

If the cost of uniform is causing difficulty, please contact us. We may be able to provide second-hand, donated or loaned items or other support where available. All requests will be treated sensitively and confidentially.

PE kit

Pupils should wear their PE kit for the whole school day on their allocated PE day. Class teachers will inform families which day their child has PE.

 The PE kit consists of:

• Yellow NMP logo PE T-shirt – compulsory branded item.
• Royal blue shorts – these can be generic/unbranded.
• Plimsolls or suitable trainers – these can be generic/unbranded.
• In colder weather, plain black or navy jogging bottoms may be worn.
• Pupils may wear their usual royal blue school jumper/cardigan over their PE T-shirt in colder weather.

No pupil should be prevented from taking part in PE because of the cost of PE kit. Families experiencing difficulty should contact the School Office or Pupil, Parent Support Officer.

Footwear

Pupils should wear plain black, closed-toe, secure footwear with a flat or low sole that is suitable for moving safely around school.

Shoes should not have flashing lights or other features that are unsafe or significantly distracting.

Reasonable adjustments will be made where required because of disability, SEND, medical or sensory needs.

Jewellery and Accessories

For health and safety reasons, jewellery should be kept to a minimum.

Pupils may normally wear:

• one watch, provided it does not have games or audible alerts during lessons; and
• one pair of small stud earrings.

Religious, cultural and medical jewellery will be considered individually, and safe arrangements will be agreed for PE where necessary.

The school cannot accept responsibility for watches or jewellery that are lost or damaged. Hair accessories should be practical and should not present a safety risk.

Hair and Hairstyles

Pupils may wear their natural hair and hairstyles that reflect their racial, cultural, family or religious identity. This includes Afro-textured hair, braids, locks, twists, cornrows, plaits, skin fades and appropriate head coverings.

Hair may need to be tied back or secured where there is a genuine health and safety reason, for example during PE, science, food preparation or activities involving equipment.

Makeup, Nails, Body Piercing and Temporary Tattoos

Makeup, false nails and nail polish are not normally part of school uniform and should not be worn, except where agreed for a particular school event or where an individual adjustment has been made.

Body piercings other than small ear studs are not normally suitable for school because of health and safety considerations. Religious, cultural and medical requirements will always be considered individually.

Decorative temporary tattoos are not normally part of school uniform. Religious, cultural or medical markings will be treated sensitively.

Religious, Cultural, Medical and SEND Adjustments

We recognise that some pupils may require adjustments to our usual uniform expectations.

Religious and cultural clothing, including hijabs, turbans, head coverings and relevant religious symbols, will be accommodated wherever reasonably possible.

Pupils with SEND, sensory processing differences, physical disabilities, skin conditions or other medical needs may require alternatives to particular fabrics, fits, fastenings, footwear or other uniform requirements. Reasonable adjustments will be made so that our uniform requirements do not create a barrier to a pupil's participation in school.

Naming Clothing and Property

Please label all uniform and belongings clearly with your child's name, including PE kit, coats and bags. This gives us the best chance of returning lost items.

The school will take reasonable steps to return named property. Unclaimed items may be recycled, donated to our second-hand uniform stock or disposed of at the end of each term after families have been given reasonable notice.
