School Financial Information

Financial Benchmarking

The Department for Education provides a Financial Benchmarking and Insights Tool which allows parents, governors and members of the public to view and compare financial information about schools.

The tool can be used to:

  • view our school's income, expenditure and financial position;
  • compare our spending with similar schools;
  • explore spending on areas such as teaching and support staff, premises and catering;
  • compare pupil and workforce information; and
  • view financial information from previous years.

Benchmarking helps schools and governing bodies understand how resources are being used and identify areas that may require further consideration. Comparisons should always be considered alongside the individual circumstances, priorities and needs of each school. The DfE itself makes clear that its spending indicators are not measures of school performance and do not take account of individual schools' spending strategies.
