Norbury Manor Primary School

Love Your Bike Week!

Monday 11th – Friday 15th was ‘Love your Bike week’, and as part of this, Thursday 14th February 2019 was bike day at Norbury Manor Primary!

We held two events that day, both involving bikes.

Bike Market.

The bike market opened at 8.00am in the morning. Tony and Faye from Peddle my wheels set up shop in the front playground. Parents from NMP and surrounding schools were able to bring in any unwanted bikes that they wished to sell.

Tony and Faye tagged the bikes and spent the morning giving the bikes a thorough check. In the afternoon, parents and children were invited to the bike sale.

The bikes on sale included ones that the parents had bought in during the morning, and also a range from the Peddle my wheels stock.

Rollapaluza.

This was a fun event that was enjoyed by pupils in Years 3-6 and some sporty staff members!

Children with all abilities of cycling experience were offered a chance to participate in an exciting bike event on static racing bikes.  Children were asked to get into groups of 4. They were allocated a bike and asked to get ready for a cycle race on bikes similar to exercise bikes. The starting pistol started, and the children had to cycle as fast as they could for the equivalent of 800 metres. Sounds easy, but when put under pressure, it was quite a difficult task to peddle non stop against others, but with the support of their classmates, everyone managed to finish the distance!

You can look up your times on the ROLLAPALUZA website. Just click here.

The Rollapaluza event aimed to promote cycling as a means of transport, healthy leisure activity and sport to as many pupils as possible including non-cyclists and people who do not currently participate in physical activity or exercise. It was a delightful event and something that we have never done at NMP!

NMP must also be commended as the organisers said that they had visited a number of schools in the past few weeks, and our pupils were very well behaved and very easy to work with, so a massive well done to all those who took part.
